CREATIVITY WEAVES THROUGH MY LIFE LIKE A RED THREAD AND GIVES ME THE STRENGTH TO STAND UP TO VARIOUS CHALLENGES

I LOVE TO INSPIRE, IN MY FREE WORK OR IN COOPERATIONS

HOW IT ALL STARTED:

A KNITTING MACHINE AND ALL SORTS OF IDEAS

As a teenager, I was obsessed with knitting. At the age of seventeen I had invested all my money in a hand-knitting machine to speed up the  realization of my ideas.

I wasn’t aware at that time that I had started my own business. 10 years later my pullovers were sold internationally in high-priced boutiques.

The concept was “learning by doing”. I mastered the workmanship perfectly, and I discovered I had organizational skills as well.

The unconventional designs easily attracted enthusiasts, and that formed the label Sathya Wabun, a knit collection in small series, made in Germany.

A NEW PHASE:
RIGHT INTO A SUCCESS STORY WITH FREEMAN T. PORTER

Sathya Wabun was terminated due to personal reasons.
A few weeks after at a fashion fair, I noticed a guy in baggy pants who seemed way too old for this new trend. That sparked my interest, so I went over to talk to him.
He was the founder of the label Freeman T. Porter and was searching for a knit designer.
I had just scored my first assignment from a real label.
What followed were exciting years of success. I got to know the commercial industry, learned to work on the computer and in a team, and to think in collections.
I couldn’t resist and still developed a few unique single pieces for my little “fanbase” on the side. It made me happy.

ONCE MORE, FROM SCRATCH:
TIGERHILL, AND A QUANTUM LEAP TO AMSTERDAM

In 2008 two business partners invited me to become shareholder as a creative director of an own brand. I accepted – I could face the challenge with my know-how.
After some intense first years the company got taken over by a  foreign investor.
He had big plans for Tigerhill, and in 2012 he announced the move to  Amsterdam.

The attitude towards life in the city that Leonhard Cohen once called the “city of freedom” suited me well.
I loved the morning mood at the harbor on my way to the office, where I went by bike, of course.

Days were filled with team spirit and creativity. I had a dream team by my side.
In the summer of 2014 Tigerhill had to close despite all efforts because the investor had difficulties in other areas.

Six years of Tigerhill, but life continued.

A STATEMENT FROM THE DREAM TEAM

FASHION DESIGNER, AMSTERDAM

When I joined the TIGERHILL design team I had a great time working together with Renate.
As a design manager she recognizes your strengths and gives you space to develop and supports where necessary.
I got to know Renate as an open minded, sympathetic, warm and ambitious person. She is a very creative, versatile fashion designer / artist who thinks out of the box and is inventive.
As a lifestyle expert she creates a mix of surprising materials which she puts in a new context with great knowledge of technique. She is able to present this in a surprising way giving you a feeling of innovation, joy and a little bit of nostalgia.

THE DECISION FOR ART
RA-AM ARTS

In that summer of 2014, one week before I got the final call for Tigerhill, I had a clear impulse. What else would I like to realize?

I had achieved everything that I wanted in the fashion business and I was aware that the remaining time was precious.

I made my decision for a freelance artist. That was the start for a new period in my life and I’m happy to realize my creative potential in a new depth.

The spirit of Amsterdam inspired me a lot. I found my handwriting there, and with the velvet surface and the deep black of ink also the technique.

In spring 2015 I went back to Germany. Homburg welcomed me with open arms. Here is the place where I feel comfortable. This is where I find the peace to dive in deep……
